YOU WERE SAVED TO SERVE!
I feel like this topic is not focused on enough, we go on and on about the great amount of Grace we have been given because we have now accepted Christ as our Lord and Saviour, but we do not talk about what are supposed to do with this Grace. We are so focused on this ‘FREE’ gift of Grace, meanwhile we have not bothered to talk about another free gift God has given us, this is the seed He has planted within us.
The seed we were given from Birth. This seed is not to be wasted and it is not to be taken for granted, we cannot be saved but still living our life the same, this is not pleasing to God. We were not saved so we can feel less guilty when next we sin and Jesus did not pay the ultimate price just so we can go around the world acting as though we have no purpose. NO. We were saved to SERVE.
This is such a beautiful saying because it means we were saved for a reason. We were saved because not only because God loves us, but also because He wants us to be and do better. One of the ways we can do this is by serving those that require our help. It is no longer about simply knowing about the Grace within our lives, it is now about using that Grace in order to serve and enlarge the Kingdom of God.
In other words, now that we have opened the door, we need to walk through it and gradually open other doors.
Let me give you an example: In my circumstance, yes, I have been saved and I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour but if you had asked me last year what I was doing with my life I would have said ‘ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.’ I would have said this because I didn’t believe I had any purpose or direction to my life, I believed I had no value and I believed that it was impossible for me to help anyone.
Now, if you came up to me and asked me the same question today I would say: “I am releasing women into their God-given destiny and I am helping to give them voices, I am helping them to stop being voiceless and instead become an essential in today’s society and of course, I am helping them to look like QUEENS while doing it.”
How did I get to this place do you ask?
I knew that my calling was to SERVE. Every single one of us has a calling to serve, we are not here on Earth to fulfil our selfish pursuits, but instead we are here to put others before ourselves, whether this be your family, your church or even the school you are attending, you are called to serve.
I found out who I was meant to serve by first of all learning more about myself and then learning more about women, as I started to mature I realised that my voice was not heard as much as others and the more I started to realise this, the more I wanted to do something to help change it. I started to pay more attention to my surroundings and I started to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit more, I felt like He was drawing me closer to women, it felt like He wanted me to liberate them and this is when I truly discovered who I was meant to be serving.
You will find out who you are meant to serve through your connection with that person or group of people and you will come to realise that you cannot be disconnected from them.
However, the most important person we are meant to serve is GOD. As His followers and children we are supposed to serve Him in everything we do, His only Son saved us so that we can His Father as our Master.
We are meant to serve God above anything else, through spending intimate time with Him, through reading the Word and through Prayer.
What does the Bible say about serving?
1 PETER 4:10- “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
The gift we have received from the Lord is not to be kept to ourselves, instead it is meant to be shared with others, we are meant to be a blessing onto others as the caretaker of God’s Grace.
We were saved to serve others through spreading the Gospel.
What happens if we don’t fulfil our calling of spreading the good news?
MATTHEW 5:13-15- “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
We believers are necessary in today’s society, just like in the days of Jesus Christ salt was necessary, it was a preservative. But, if we as Disciples lose our way we are no longer needed and we are not good for anything.
As a Disciple of Jesus Christ, do not be hidden from the world. We need to proclaim and celebrate the Gospel! We are meant to be a light in our generation, how are we meant to do this if we are hidden away?
So, are you now going to serve?
